GenReadyBot is the name GenReady uses when it visits a website. GenReady checks how well a site works for AI search engines and AI agents. This page says what the bot requests, how it behaves, and how to block it.
When you see it in your logs
There are two cases.
- Someone ran a GenReady check on your site. GenReady loads the page they asked for in a browser, to see what an AI crawler would see. The user agent is
Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; GenReadyBot/1.0; +https://genready.ai/bot). - GenReady also runs its own research checks on public websites. Those requests use
GenReadyBot/1.0 (+https://genready.ai/bot).
What the research checks request
Public pages only: the home page, /robots.txt, /llms.txt, /sitemap.xml, and a few pages such as /contact, /about and /projects. Every request is a plain GET. The bot reads the HTML as your server sends it. It does not run scripts, log in or fill in forms.
How it behaves
- It reads your robots.txt first and follows the rules for GenReadyBot, or for
*when there are none for it. - It waits at least 2 seconds between requests to the same host, and makes one request at a time per host.
- It reads at most 2 MB of a page, gives up after 15 seconds, and follows at most 3 redirects.
- It backs off when a site answers 429 or 503. If the site asks it to wait longer than 60 seconds, it leaves.
- It never connects to private network addresses.
What we keep, and what we may do with it
We keep what the checks found, for example whether your robots.txt blocks AI search crawlers, and the contact details your site prints in public. If we find a clear technical problem, we may write to you about it. We send one message and at most one reminder. Reply "stop" and we do not write again.
Block it
To stop the research checks, add this to your robots.txt. The bot then requests nothing from your site except the robots.txt file itself.
