Information Density: How Much Useful Information Your Content Packs
Why information density determines whether AI quotes your content or skips it.
What it measures
Information Density measures the ratio of meaningful content (named entities, facts, numbers, specific claims) to total word count. It's the category score combining Entity-to-Token Ratio and Fluff/Bloat Penalty.
Why it matters for AI
AI systems prefer content that is packed with concrete, citable information rather than vague generalities. Pages with higher density are more likely to be quoted in AI-generated answers because they provide specific data points AI can reference confidently.
How to improve
- Replace filler phrases with concrete facts — Every sentence should earn its place
- Add statistics with sources — Numbers are the currency of AI citations
- Name specific people, companies, and products — Generic references get skipped
- Include dates and numbers wherever relevant — Temporal anchoring adds density
💡 Quick win
For every claim you make, ask: "Could AI quote this sentence with confidence?" If not, add specifics.
